Course

Check out our course video!

Starting at Tydings Park in historic Havre De Grace overlooking the Marina and Chesapeake Bay. Runners embark on Union Avenue which is lined with Victorian homes. Runners go down toward the water then up to the hill to the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge.

The bridge is 7,624 feet long and nearly 100 feet high, providing breathtaking view of the Susquehanna River emptying into the Chesapeake Bay.

Awaiting on the other side is Perryville and a run along Aiken Avenue, a tree-lined street with turn-of-the-century charm.

The course then leads into the Perry Point VA Medical Center campus which is perched at the head of the Chesapeake Bay providing sweeping water views. The runners will enter a loop around Perryville Community Park. Relay runners will exchange here. The course re-enters the Perry Point VA Campus where they will be cheered on by veterans as they traverse the gorgeous Perry Point Campus.

The course makes a turn again through Perryville and another pass across the Hatem Bridge towards Havre de Grace. The last two miles wind through downtown and along the waterfront. The half marathon course ends with a final dash past the Decoy Museum and Maritime Museum towards the finish line at Tydings Park.

Rules & Event Restrictions

  • TIME LIMIT - 3 hours and 05 minutes (14:00 min/mile average pace).  There is a time limit for the  half marathon and half marathon relay. On the return to the finish, all runners must pass Aiken and US 40, the water stop before the bridge going to Havre de Grace in 2 hours after the race gun time start. This is necessary to clear the bridge and return to the normal traffic pattern.
  • AGE REQUIREMENT - At least 13 years old on race day OR have approval from the Race Director.
  • AUTHORIZED RUNNERS - All entrants must display their race bib. Police will be stationed on each side of the bridge! The race bib must be displayed on the chest of the outer garment worn by the runner. Only registered runners will be allowed on the course.  Any participant who, in the sole determination of the Race Director, is a hazard to himself or any participant or spectator, may be removed from the course and, in such an event, will be disqualified from the race.
  • PERMITTED ITEMS ON-COURSE - The following items are specifically permitted: fanny packs, hydration belts, cups or bike bottles, and one-gallon clear bags.
  • PROHIBITED ITEMS ON-COURSE - The following are prohibited on the course: backpacks of any type (for gear or hydration, this includes Camelbak or Camelbak like fluid containers), runners going backwards, jump ropes, juggling, animals, selfie sticks, glass containers, weapons of any kind, explosives, facemasks, drones, and flags larger than 11″x17″. No wheeled vehicles are allowed other than official race vehicles. No exceptions! This includes: bicycles, baby strollers, baby joggers, roller skates, in-line skates, and skateboards. The Race Director reserves the right to disallow additional items at any time.
  • ELECTRONIC DEVICES & HEADSETS - We expect all participants to use good judgment and take responsibility for their actions should they wear an electronic device with a headset during the race. We do ask that all participants be able to hear last minute instructions both at the start and finish lines, and that the ear buds be removed at these locations.
  • ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES & INFORMATION - In some areas, only the side of the road runners are on will be closed to vehicular traffic. Police and volunteers will be stationed at major intersections and crossroads, but not at minor roads or private driveways. As such, it is imperative that you stay within the cones marking the course and stay alert. Any deviations from the marked race course can result in a disqualification.  It is our intent to provide the safest possible race course. Those who participate in violation of these rules will be disqualified and removed from the course.  Foot runners and authorized vehicles have the right-of-way at all times, but runners should be cautious at intersections, side streets, and divided roads as impatient drivers may not read these rules. Any assistance received from anyone other than an official race volunteer or other course official may result in a disqualification. Safety and security is a primary concern for this event. All bags are subject to search at any time.
